Cookies can be shipped using any of the major shipping companies (Fedex, UPS, DHL, USPS)

Cookies can fall into the perishable or non perishable category.

Materials:

  • plastic refrigerator container (non perishable)
  • double corrugated cardboard (either)
  • packing foam or bubble wrap (either)
  • plastic wrap (perishable)
  • a foam container (perishable)
  • reinforced moisture resistant tape (either)

In general, cookies should be shipped in two boxes. The inner box will contain the cookies and keep them from being crushed. The outer box is to contain the cookie box and extra packing material. For the inner box we recommend a refrigerator plastic box that you can get at the supermarket. Make sure that you wash and air it out for a couple of days to avoid having your cookies tasting like plastic. The outer box should be a double corrugated box.

The problem with cookies is that they can not be crammed up against each other or they can crumble in transit. To avoid this, wrap cookies in smaller plastic bags to be placed into the refrigerator box. The space between plastic bags should be filled with packing material, preferably packing foam or bubble wrap. In order to keep your cookies moist, place a wet kitchen towel that has been wrung out in the box. This will trap the moisture in the box and keep the cookies moist.

After packing your inner box then place that box into the cardboard box. The cardboard box should have at least an inch of null or empty space around the plastic box. This will allow you to place bubble wrap or foam around the inner box.

After adding either foam or bubble wrap, seal BOTH sides and corners with reinforced tape. The corners are particularly vulnerable to breaking in transit. Label the box clearly one side only. That will insure that your package is usually is placed in one position during transit. Non perishable cookies should be sent ground.

Perishable cookies will require a Styrofoam box and to be frozen rock solid before being sent. We recommend that you freeze cookies in the inner plastic box before the final packing. When they are rock solid and just before you are ready to ship them, place them in the Styrofoam container. Then place the Styrofoam container in a double corrugated cardboard box with one inch of null space around the Styrofoam. Place packing foam or bubble wrap around the Styrofoam box and seal as above.

Perishable cookies have to be shipped overnight. They should arrive partly frozen or cold.
